Silves, Algarve, Portugal
The huge car park at Silves seems to be an accepted if not official 'aire' for motorhomes. Certainly there is no signage to advise otherwise and a significant number (maybe 50 or so) while we were there in April appears to bear this out. Located at the swimming pool by the edge of the town of Silves you are in easy walking distance of shops, banks, restaurants, and the municipal market.
The town also has a fortification, a pretty church and a river running by which is inhabited by the almost omnipresent storks swooping by on their search for food. Apparently famous for its cork products there is a cork museum together with plenty of gift and antique (bric a brac) shops.
Not far from the parking is an extremely well stocked supermarket. Around the aire you can receive free Wifi courtesy of the swimming pool where you can also get a reasonably priced and uncrowded swim. The services at Silves are a little more complicated than usual but many people manage to spend significant periods of time here.
