The other week, we booked a campsite in North Devon for Easter online with friends.
Had an email today saying the site doesn't open until May!!
However the site accepted the dates, booking and money.

Oh and apparently whitsun is another £10 a night.

Bloody shambles!! ‏ — feeling irritated

We often stay along the North Coast of Devon and Cornwall, I still can find loads of places and never have had a problem.
Appledore, Bideford, clovelly, hartland point, tintagel, port quin, porthtowan, cot valley all have car parks where overnight is allowed (well at least it was last year)
Loads of other empty national trust car parks and laybys, for me the South West is the go to destination as it's so welcoming.
I can imagine it must have been amazing in the 60's and 70's when everywhere was the same, uncommercial and welcoming.
