Two members have recently asked why they can't always see the maps we display on our UK Pub Stopover pages. Well, having done some research, and with one of the members changing their browser - it is an Internet Explorer issue with Google Maps (which we use). The remedies to the problem are explained here.

The other remedy that is even easier is to install a different (and internet standard compliant) browser like Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox for example, there are many to choose from and they're free!

If you haven't done this sort of thing before it is very easy and you do not need to get rid of Internet Explorer - you can use whichever browser you have installed on your machine at any time. You can even copy (import) all your bookmarks into the new browser too.

A search on the internet along the lines of 'advantages of Internet Explorer' will result in numerous pages actually criticising the browser. Although it's very popular (maybe because it is the browser that most new computers come with pre-installed?) it causes many issues with very many websites.

You can get Google Chrome downloaded by visiting here and following the instructions and you can get Mozilla Firefox here
I had trouble getting to see the maps!

I've heard lots of people saying IE is not actually very good but I didn't believe them as I've always used it as it came on each computer I have owned.

Anyway when I read your post I just thought I'd try a different one and downloaded Firefox.... Won't be using IE anymore!

It's faster, gives a sharper screen image and its not just on your website. Wish I'd changed ages ago.

The maps are very useful by the way, especially now I can actually see them .

Glad you've made the move sunnyjim! I am amazed that IE has such a following and I think its probably because, like you, everyone uses it because it comes as standard on their machines :S . There is so much extra work that goes into web design so that Internet Explorer can be 'tricked' into displaying websites properly. These things only really come to light when there is an obvious problem with a website's display (as in Google Maps). IE issues are pet hates for me if you hadn't already gathered.... I'll get off my soapbox now

Now you've seen how easy it is to download and use a new browser you might want to try Google Chrome - its even faster and sharper IMHO .

Another convert here! B)

I gave up on Internet Ex a while ago, changed to Firefox which then seemed to slow down quite a bit after a while so moved onto Google Chrome which is superb, in my opinion.
