Hi folks - Newbies here having just bought our 3 year old Rapido 707F and still trying to pick our way htrough the Insurance nightmare.
Thought I had a good deal with Saga until they start quibbling about their definition of a No Claims Discount only applying if I was selling the car it applied to?
Anyway its pushed me into the open market again which is how I found this Forum - so errr...hello

Hi and :welcome1: to the forum.

You're right about the insurance nightmare - you just have to shop around and eventually find something that suits ALL your needs.

We've got a Rapido and love it so hope you enjoy yours.

Have a good look around the site and ask away - someone can usually help or point you in the right direction.

Welcome to the club.

Have a look at Safeguard and Comfort Insurance companies. Both are specialists in motorhome insurance.

We are insured with Comfort as they also do house insurance and can give up to 180 days away at a time but cover for 360 days foreign use. We currently have cover for 90 days away at a time.

We have also had Safeguard insurance and found them good but more expensive.

Hmmm...mixed response from the two suggested

Went through all the nonsense with Safeguard and they let me get to the end before telling me they couldn't quote me online!

Went through Comfort and found a really good quote that I've taken out underwritten by Aviva.

So far so good - but experience tells me to wait until they have had a good think about it all and actually issue you a policy!

Thanks for the tip though - sounds promising

:-)

I had same problem, but not just with Saga. All insurance companies declare that you have to build up an NCD for each vehicle you own. So if you are keeping your car, you have to start again. But one suggestion is to get yourself armed with a statement of NCD from your car insurance and, when buying insurance for the MH, tell them what it says and they are likely to take it into account when giving you an initial NCD (they call it 'mirroring', though it can be a foggy mirror). I suppose if you usually drive a Toyota Aygo and now you want to insure an A-class, I suppose they've got a point. [I got mine from the Caravan Club in the end - oh the ignominy B].

I did that with Saga - even sending them the confirmation from Admiral (my car insurer) but they then decided they didnt do 'mirroring' at all and doubled the premium by only giving me a 45% introductory offer NCD. This only grows at 5% per year I found out so its 5 years with them before I'm back up to 70%!

I have politeley declined.....:-)

Hi, I am new to motor homing, been a caravan-er for 40 years, but ready for a change, owned our Autocruise Starefire, since July 12, it seems a big step, but hopefully we will get there biggest shock is, no car to run about in, and parking restrictions with the motor home

I'm sure you will love the motorhoming lifestyle. It is easier on the continent as there are dedicated parking/overnight places for motorhomes.

You will find that Aviva underwrite quite a few policies offered by various agents. I have been with them now for three years and changed agents each year because new business attracts a discount on what is basically the same policy. Just another consideration when you come to renew. Like most insurance though it is not the lowest premium that wins the day it is how well they are at meeting your claim that sets them apart.
:welcome2: to our forum, it does tend to be concentrated on motorhome issues which sets it apart from the others who really want a social media chat site.

You'll soon get used to the motorhome was of life. Like Zulurita says it's easier on the continent where motorhomes are welcomed in even the smallest of villages with parking and facilities. In the Uk we tend to use sites with access to public transport using our bus passes.!!!
