In Hythe in the New Forest national park is a beautiful spot where you can stop overnight for nothing without being disturbed by any authorities. I know this as fact as I am a taxi driver in Hythe. Have been here for twenty years. Head for SHORE ROAD. It starts at one end by 'SEADOWN VETS' as Frost Lane. From there just follow the road (past my house), over the level crossing and 400 metres on is a gravelled area pull in. The view which you will already have seen by now is one of The Solent estuary and gateway to Southampton, home of The Queens. The ship type! Dozens of small craft and the IOW redjet ferries sail by regularly. If you are lucky enough to catch one of the super liners you feel like you could touch them. Well worth a visit as Hythe itself is a beautiful place. Want to go a bit up market? Go to Hythe Marina for a meal at The Boat House. No it isn't that bad actually, just no rubbish served up. Catch a ferry to Southampton for a 15 minute jaunt, again maybe REALLY up close to one of the docked liners. Oldest working pier train in the world about sums this up.
Now then, although I have given the go ahead and assured you all of a 'freebie' things do change and happen unheard to a humble taxi driver. We do hear all the local gossip but as far as this place goes there is no known change for the past twenty years. Just don't get the awnings and picnic gear out. Our local 'Bobby' is a nice chap as well so if on a blue moon you were disturbed you would only be politely asked to move on. Give it a go, it's a great area for so much fun and lovely villages.
Good Luck
It is a 'deep' gravel area so even the largest of 'vans' can park facing the sea.
Just followed your directions on Google StreetView and it looks a nice spot for a crafty overnight.

Thanks for passing it in and hopefully it will be handy for someone

Hi Mothy

What a great post and very useful too. Definitely visit Hythe. We sometimes take our boat (Rib) with us, so I will check out the slipway.

This post got me thinking. Perhaps Neil might consider a section 'Members Home Town' I will definitely post something about Bradford on Avon , where to park , eat, walks etc. In addition, the section could include other places of interest within the area which would form the basis of a round trip. Something along the lines of Escapades en camping-car France, we use this guide when we are just ambling around France. http://www.michelin-boutique.com/guide-escapades-camping-france-michelin-p-1572.html

Just a thought, What do other members think?

Good idea

Excellent idea, I'd be interested in hearing others' opinions but I can certainly set that up.

I think it would be most useful if it was setup as an article section available from the 'Members' menu? That way there could be a map incorporated which would have markers leading to the various members' input. That way it would be easier to refer to if the idea became popular  .

All that would be needed this end would be the copy, either directly in an email or as a word document or similar, together with any photos that could be included......

If you are prepared to kick off with it Spinner just let me have the details and we can see how it might develop. The idea would also be worthy of its own forum topic to gain others attention

That's a great idea Spinner. A round trip of great places could be done with a bit of forwarning of good eating spots etc. as you suggested. Total support for that. COME ON NEIL! Get to work!

Hi Neil

Yes I will put something together. I have a few ideas of good places to visit and where to stay. Give me a couple of weeks and I will submit something.

What a great post and lets hope this plan comes together.
My home town is Plymouth but i,ve lived in weston super mare for the past 32 years so hope to add a couple likely places for you all .The place what springs to mind would be ellenborough park north and Ellenborough park south opposite the sea front.I,ve often spotted motorhomes parked up there. If you're lucky enough to be walking along the sea front towards the new pier and the tides in theres no better place to stretch your legs.Restaurants aplenty as you walk past the pier, they charge to walk along the pier now so maybe give that a miss but it looks nice lit up at night while you sup your cold beer or Prosecio in Nicks bar.

Sounds good, great to hear of new spots. I have personally not even considered Weston for years because they are famous for being anti motorhome, I didn't even go when my cousin managed the Toby Carvery there!
