Uploading your photos into the Members Photo Galleries

We've been developing some pretty good software on Club Motorhome for members to upload and display their own photographs Smile. This feature is available for all registered users to use including free forum members (Guests can view the photos but not upload). The development of these galleries is ongoing so there will be a little fine-tuning along the way.

There are some main categories in place already which you can upload your pictures into, or you can set up your own categories (which are just for your own photos) as sub-categories of these main ones.

To upload your photos:

Click on 'user panel' and if uploading into an existing category just click on 'upload', select the relevant category, fill in the other boxes of information, then select your photos and upload them.

If you want to create a new category first, then from 'user panel' select 'categories', click on 'new category', fill in the boxes including your choice of 'parent gallery', then click on 'save'. Then you can the follow the instructions above to upload your photos into your own new gallery.

Its much easier than it sounds - give it a try! If you do have any problems please post them on the forum under website help and feedback

General advice on uploading photographs

Modern digital cameras are capable of producing some really BIG pictures! Not unaturally most people will take their images at the highest resolution that their camera can manage in order to get the best possible image quality for displaying on your computer screen or for printing, but it causes problems when trying to upload to a website because:

1. Large images take valuable space on a server which in turn means an increase in server space allowance which costs, they may actually exceed the server's own upload limits and they also take a long time to upload or download, perhaps even causing the server to time out.

2. Large images and can make the Club Motorhome pages load slower.

3. The maximum longest side of a photo should be no more than 500 or 600 pixels, larger images would spill over the intended display size of the website and cause viewing difficulties.

We welcome photographs but before you upload pictures to the forums or your galleries they must be resized as above.

To resize using WINDOWS XP

Using the Image Microsoft "Image Resizer" download it from here and install it. (You will find it half way down the column on the right. In between Power Calculator and CD Slide Show Generator.

Once installed its very easy, just right click any image and choose 'resize'. Choose the size you need and a duplicate of your picture will be produced at the dimensions you chose.

To resize using WINDOWS VISTA

In Vista, probably the easiest way to generate a resized image is:

1. Double-click the required image to open in Vista image viewer (Windows Photo Gallery)

2. Click the email icon on the toolbar.

3. Choose a size and click OK.

Just right click on the attachment in the new email and choose "Save As." - You don't need to send the email! Save it to a folder and you now you have a resized version of the larger image.

To resize using a free hosting gallery online

Go to somewhere like Photobucket.com (there are many others), create a free account, upload your photos then follow their instructions to resize the image.

Follow the instructions and have your image resized. You will then see the various codes that you can copy and paste into forums or galleries to display your resized images - a little practice and its easy!

Please don't let this process put you off sharing your photos on here, just take a few minutes to resize them. This is fairly standard practice with most forums and gallery display websites.
