Well they can in North Devon anyway  .

Torridge District Council is changing its current regulations, which ban overnight parking in any of its car parks.

From next year motorhomes will be allowed to park for £5 between 6pm and 10am for a maximum of two nights.

'This is North Devon' write-up is here http://www.thisisnorthdevon.co.uk/Motor-homes-stay-car-parks/story-17458851-detail/story.html

Great news! Lets hope other authorities follow suit.
Yes slowly the councils are starting to realize that we will spend money in there town if we can park.
We often use the Motor home parking area in Canterbury Park and Ride Old Dover rd Kent takes about 20 vans ,waste water dump and water tap .It is £2.50 for 24 hours you can get in till 7pm and out anytime ,but not open Sunday.Price includes the bus for up to 6 people into Canterbury return.Great place to park for early Dover ferry.Pub with food easy walking distance.Had a couple of talks to the P&Ride manager here and he says that a large number of people use the bus into town and on return are loaded down with shopping.

This is excellent news

As many of us as possible should visit, especially out of the school holidays, making sure that we mention where we are staying whenever we spend any money there. That will develop a body of support from traders.

The only people who will object are the campsite owners, but as the one quoted in the article says, people who come for several days and want hook-up aren't going to be staying in a car park, and those staying on the car parks are very unlikely to stay in the campsites
