Well they can in North Devon anyway  .

Torridge District Council is changing its current regulations, which ban overnight parking in any of its car parks.

From next year motorhomes will be allowed to park for £5 between 6pm and 10am for a maximum of two nights.

'This is North Devon' write-up is here http://www.thisisnorthdevon.co.uk/Motor-homes-stay-car-parks/story-17458851-detail/story.html

Great news! Lets hope other authorities follow suit.

If it ain't broke..... Don't fix it!

This is excellent news :) :)

As many of us as possible should visit, especially out of the school holidays, making sure that we mention where we are staying whenever we spend any money there. That will develop a body of support from traders.

The only people who will object are the campsite owners, but as the one quoted in the article says, people who come for several days and want hook-up aren't going to be staying in a car park, and those staying on the car parks are very unlikely to stay in the campsites
