Hi Transittrv. We don't have a dog, so don't know much about your question, but if it were me I would aim for the %-van 'licensed sites' (CLs/CAs) where you'd be in good countryside and have no bother with having a dog - providing you're a member of either CC or C&CC. If not, it would be worth joining, unless you need bigger sites for some other reason.
