The system seems a tad complicated at first but does become logical with practice.
The main thing is to press the 'insert' button when it appears which only happens once you have selected the image for inclusion. Also the text area will still show the image between [attachment] brackets until you press submit for the posting. The preview button allows you to see the image in place before hand though.
