hi all . the pound has taken another bashing 1.14tourist & 1.16 bank rates :sick: so for the life of me WHAT do WE get out of being in the e.u :unsure: . if we had joined the euro when it came in force we would have only had to pay 59p per euro :angry: . some people will say its good for our exports BUT we import more than whats goes out :angry: & the way things are going touring the content we will be priced out :sick: .William

I'm fairly sure that when the euro was created by the merger of national currencies (about 3 years before the coins and notes appeared), the GBP was at 75p. Yes it has been down (or up, if its your pension) to 66p and in mid-0ctober 2009, it went down to 92.5p and 1:1 tourist rate. Keep your tin hat on as I'm afraid stg is going to depreciate more, as the fabled AAA credit rating looks like going for a burton.

If you want to flog the 'what did the EU ever do for us' dead horse, you could start with E numbers. Before that agreement, we hadn't a clue what was in our food and some UK manufacturers [others too no doubt] were using potions that never would qualify for an E number.
