Just returned from Scotland where it is actually encouraged! I actually found an idyllic spot where my wife nervously agreed to wildcamp. It was a most beautiful white sand blue water cove ( no, Scotland wasn't an error) with mountains surrounding about 120 degrees. After an undisturbed dark and silent sleep I ventured out with the dog. On the road we had come in on was a small building which turned out to be proper toilets, drinking water on an outside tap and a fixed sign on the wall encouraging wildcamping but just asking us to use the waste bins provided and not disturb nesting birds etc! WELL DONE Scotland. This situation was found many more times especially at very scenic spots. Obviously toilets and fresh water were not always available but overnight sleeping with respect for your surroundings definitely was. Even the camp sites were okay with it all. The general opinion was "There's plenty for all of us".
