Our ageing TomTom is due for retirement so we're looking for a replacement.

As our old one runs as a program on an also ageing palmtop HP4800 we need to think about a complete new setup rather than just new maps.

Question is: Is it realistic to use a TomTom app on an iPhone 4, HTC or Samsung Galaxy phone as a main SatNav? We're thinking of a TomTom app with European mapping rather than using Google Mapping etc as we don't want the phone to be connected, and therefore roaming, while we're using it as we are out of the UK for a lot of the year.

If it is realistic, then we would not only be getting a new sat nav - but also a phone and half decent pocket camera at the same time :) .

Anyone got experience of this setup?

If it ain't broke..... Don't fix it!
