Good Morning folks.

We have just purchased our first motorhome and looking forward to covering some scenic miles. I've looked at a few different membership sites, and this one stood out as its more orientated for wild camping, which fits our agenda.

We are just waiting for an aircon pod, solar panels and have the gas system changed to be able to refill in fuel stations rather then swapping bottles then we are off with the maiden voyage planned for Erftstadt in Germany.

I'm not a complete novice to European driving, as I've spent the last 2 1/2 years doing abnormal loads (Convoi Exceptionel) across Europe, but I'm guessing there are places i parked in a lorry, that i may not get away with in a motorhome and visa versa.

A couple of examples were France under abnormal loads, I could pretty much park anywhere I wanted, as long as I didn't block a road or someone's land access, and Germany it was fairly common to just park on a Lidl or Rewe supermarket carpark over night.

I'm also assuming i can use the truck stop Aire's and Autohoffs etc if we want to.

The reason for the maiden journey being Erftstadt, was the police parked me up for 3 days during the floods with a wide load as the A61 motorway had been washed away and there was no route possible for my vehicle to run on to leave. During those days there, even with the huge destruction going on around them, the local people still took the time to see if us drivers needed food, water and hygiene facilities. So if anyone can point me to parking near the centre of Erftstadt it would be apreciated.

Another thing im not sure about, is in a lorry, I had a toll box for motorways that covered all of Europe. Do i need to get Vignettes, Eurotoll and Telepeage passes or a box? This year we only plan on weekends in North France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Next year we plan to run over Romania and Bulgaria as I only ever got a couple of runs in a lorry there and there is so much more I wish to see as a tourist.

Clearly there will be more questions to come once we get on the road,

Thanks for taking the tie to read, and I look forward to putting our own experiences both good and bad across in the future to help and advise others.

Mandy and Phil
