Our latest Newsletter has just gone out so please check your inbox/spam/junk etc and if you didn't get it - and would have expected to, please let me know. The content is as below:

Club Motorhome is now 5 years old!

In some ways the beginning seems a long time ago - but in others, just yesterday that we sat in our motorhome late into the night discussing plans to create the original 'magazine' style website. The very next day we were parked at the Aire at Honfleur in Normandy and I bought an hour's worth of internet time at a local hotel to secure the domain names and get the initial hosting up and running. Rather than build a free site and then charge once it was successful, we took the route of making it subscription based from the start confident that when we went 'live' we would provide value for money for our members - should we get any!

As the website gathered momentum there have been very many changes and improvements to cater for this growth and it is now a great resource for motorhomers of all levels. Inevitably much greater costs are involved with the current setup compared to our humble startup so there are some very small changes happening to the subscriptions - including the only increase to our annual subscription in those 5 years.

Forum Members

For a long time there have been a high number of newcomers to the site who join as 'Free Forum Members' and are genuinely interested in becoming a part of the community and taking part in the forums. However, there are many who register and are never seen again and looking through the site logs, they show a high number of these particular free members go straight to subscriber only content after registration seemingly expecting to get access before giving up and going away. They do not attempt to view or use the forums, not even to post an introduction. So as an attempt to encourage new members who do actually want to join in and use the forums (and to discourage potentially dormant users) there is now a small one-off contribution fee of £2.50 for newcomers who will now become 'Forum Members'.

Existing 'Free Forum Members' will need to become 'Forum Members' at their next renewal date if they wish to continue to use the forums - or of course upgrade to full membership if preferred. For those that have already contributed to the website by posting useful topics and replies the contribution fee will be waived.

This new one-off contribution fee will also put pay to the ever increasing numbers of spammers that try to register freely to infest forums promoting their dodgy services/wares.

The new forum membership no longer has to be renewed annually as it is set to 'lifetime'. It is however, possible to upgrade to full membership at any time.

IMPORTANT - Old, dormant free forum memberships will be deleted with these changes! So if you want to use the forums, are a free forum member and haven't logged in and posted for a while (or at all) - please do so asap to preserve your 'free' forum membership until your next renewal.

Full Members (Subscribers)

Other than small increases there are a few changes. Full member downloads and discounts will be available to annual and lifetime members only. The old 4 month option (which was always meant as a 'trial' membership to gain access to stopovers, classifieds etc with a view to upgrading to annual or above) has been discontinued.

All members who have an existing recurring subscription payment set up will be able to renew once more at the old rate. After that renewal, the recurring payment will be cancelled and it will be necessary to set it up again at the new rate should they wish to do so.

The new subscription rates of £12.50 per year or £60 lifetime will be introduced shortly. I would suggest that if you want to renew or upgrade at the old rates you do it now to beat the increase.

In Summary:

Forum Member - £2.50 lifetime contribution fee, Immediate for new registrations, next renewal for existing free forum members unless upgraded to full member beforehand.

Full Member - £12.50 annual or £60 lifetime.

Full Members (annual and lifetime members) can download the latest version (Version:2 issued Aug 2014) of our download here - UK Pub Type Stopovers Version:2

With the increasing popularity of these stopovers we have been made aware that with many more people using them, some users (not necessarily from CM I'm glad to say) have expectations of electric hookup and waste facilities etc. Now, these things are sometimes available - but as a bonus only. These locations should not be confused with campsites, they are designed to be safe and pleasant night-stops only.

Club Motorhome members agree to guidelines when using these stopovers so I am keen to reassure current and prospective location owners that we don't expect too much from them - mainly somewhere to park overnight.

There is a new Full Member 2015 windscreen disc available now for download and I am contacting each and every stopover to show them what our members will be displaying, giving them confidence that their new motorhome visitors from Club Motorhome understand the guidelines we abide by.

It is still vital that contact is made in advance of a visit to establish availability, by all means ask what facilities are available but please don't expect any.

It is also vital that we receive your feedback even when there is no change to the listed details - this serves to keep the lists up to date.

Thank you for your cooperation on this.

If it ain't broke..... Don't fix it!
