Lofoten Islands

I am able to update the blog courtesy of a friendly free wifi from Leknes airport, somewhere in this unpromising (from a free wifi point of view only!) landscape in front of us where we are spending the night.  This may impinge upon the sensibilities of some of our readers - we apologies for any distress caused!

And here is the picture of the snow road which I was unable to post earlier

We crossed over from Bodo to Meskenes last night on the 00.45 ferry.  This had not been our plan, but with one ship was being serviced then one of the other two broke down, causing chaos at the ferry port, so we went for the easier option rather than wait indefinately.  We were glad we did, as sailing into the midnight sun was a very special experience.  We arrived on Lofoten at 03.30, and easiliy found a good resting spot at a place called A - yes, A.  It is a traditional fishing village which is now a museum, albeit a working one (a bit like our Ironbridge).  We visited A in the (late!) morning.

On the trip up to Bodo we passed continuous (truely) beautiful scenery

and saw the world's greatest maelstrom, where the ocean current is constricted through a narrow channel at Saltstraumen.  We could see that the smooth-flowing water in the centre was 3-4 feet higher that the water at the outer edges.  It can't really be seen in a photo, but we did our best

All is going well, but we have had one small hiccup - we lost part of our mirror in a narrrow tunnel when another motorhome failed to keep to his own half of the road.  They didn't have the parts in stock at MBin MB at and it would be Monday (next working day - to be flown from Oslo) before they could get one.  So we decided to travel on and and have arranged to have the parts (indicator and lower mirror) delivered to Tromso, which we will collect when we get there.  At least it was only the mirror!

That small irritation aside, we are having a wonderful trip; Sally 2 is a joy to live in and to drive and Norway is an easy and friendly place to be in, so it's "all good"!.
